After the case of the ghost residence in Milano Marittima last month, when dozens of families were scammed by a criminal organization that collected deposits online for non-existent summer accommodations, now Cervia is back in the news with an even more peculiar case, since it involves a company that took over a beach, collected money, and then decided to close.

That something big had happened was already felt yesterday morning, when carabinieri and the financial police patrols were seen in front of Bagno Miluna, based on reports and complaints from several bathers. Everyone, tourists and law enforcement, was looking for the managers, who suddenly vanished into thin air. The news initially did not leak through official channels, but was inevitably spread by some victims of the scam, who posted it on social media. “We found the gates closed – says a customer –, the tenant of the establishment collected the sums from tourists who had rented for the entire September and ran off to his home in Bologna, leaving debts with the beach owners, suppliers, and the Municipality. Law enforcement intervened based on complaints filed mainly by tourists. The tenant left several debts and defrauded those who paid in advance for umbrella and sunbed services.”

Regarding the early and unannounced closure of the beach establishment, the Cervia Beach Operators Cooperative intervened, whose officials want to communicate that they have decided to take charge of the problem of guaranteeing umbrellas and sunbeds to all families who had booked at Bagno Miluna: “Tourists who had already paid for beach services and subscriptions have the possibility to be hosted at other establishments along the Cervia waterfront, with costs covered by our cooperative. Customers can contact our offices directly at 0544.72011 to receive all necessary information. It is also specified that the early closure of the business is prohibited by the current regional beach ordinance, although it is not excluded that the decision to close may have been due to a misjudgment or a lack of proper knowledge of the obligations provided by current regulations. The hope is therefore that the manager may reconsider this decision and reopen the beach establishment as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the Cooperative will continue to guarantee rescue services and shoreline cleaning on that stretch of coast.”
