Bologna, July 23, 2026 – A new disturbance is about to pass over Emilia Romagna, with particular reference to the coastal area, along which tourists will have to contend with wind and precipitation as part of a rapid passage of bad weather that will particularly affect the weekend.
Nanni: “Bad weather in Romagna and the Ferrara area”
“We are awaiting a fast front of instability along the Adriatic which will then move south – confirms Ampro meteorologist Roberto Nanni – This will first be announced by a strengthening of the wind, which will not go unnoticed by bathers and operators working along our beaches. Already in these hours, some thunderstorms are expected, which starting from this afternoon, July 23, could affect the Romagna Apennine area, then also extending towards some parts of the plain. A more marked front, but whose passage will be decidedly rapid, is instead expected during the night between Friday and Saturday. The Adriatic regions will be predominantly involved, with reference therefore to Romagna and the part of Emilia linked to the Ferrara territory: the Po Delta in particular is indicated by scientific models as the one most exposed to thunderstorms that could also be of strong intensity. As the hours pass and Friday morning arrives, the showers could also extend to the Rimini area.”
The instability will in any case be short-lived, because conditions are destined to remain predominantly good, with generally clear or partly cloudy skies widely spread throughout the territory and only a few passages of clouds over Romagna. The Emilian area, on the other hand, with the exception of the aforementioned Ferrara territory, does not seem destined to be affected by disturbances, neither in these hours nor in the coming days.
Strong thunderstorms, yellow alert for Friday
Arpae has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in the provinces of Ferrara, Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena and Rimini. “From the early hours of Friday, July 24, thunderstorms are expected on the coast – the bulletin states –, even of strong intensity, with possible associated effects and damage, dissipating by the morning. In the afternoon, moreover, daytime thunderstorms are not excluded on the Apennine ridge.”
Thunderstorms and cloudbursts between Saturday evening and Monday
Because in fact, and with this we return to Romagna, we are at the prelude to a more substantial change expected over the weekend, particularly between Saturday evening and Monday morning. “We could be reached by a new unstable wave – Nanni resumes – this time more significant and during which thunderstorms and cloudbursts are also expected. This new wave will conclude by Monday afternoon, accompanied by a Mistral wind.”
Then a new ‘heatwave’ but without extreme temperatures
What will become of summer then? It will remain in place, with temperatures already ready to rise from the minimum values that are currently reaching 16 degrees and the maximums that had dropped to around 30.
“Statistically – Nanni concludes – we are entering the hottest phase, which is not for nothing called ‘Solleone’ (Dog Days) and extends until the second decade of August. At the moment, a new ‘heatwave’ appears quite probable, destined to involve the entire territory, although fortunately (the conditional is still a must) at least in the short term there is no evidence indicating the return of extreme temperatures like those that accompanied us in recent weeks.”
