Bologna, July 20, 2026 – “With reference to the death of Fakir Abderrahim that occurred on July 19, 2026, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Bologna, following the examination of the initial acts and the video documentation acquired also through the devices used by the police forces, has proceeded to the registration of a proceeding aimed at clarifying the circumstances and causes of the death.” These are the words of Paolo Guido, chief prosecutor of Bologna.

“The investigations will take into account the entire development of the facts (over a longer time span than the video so far circulated online, also acquired by this Office) and the intervention of both law enforcement officers and healthcare personnel.”
To this end, “the registration in the proceeding has been carried out, in a special Register Mod. 45 bis, against those who took part in the different phases of the prolonged intervention – Guido continues –. In this context, all necessary investigations will be carried out with the due legal guarantees, starting from medico-legal examinations, in order to reach quickly (and as provided by recently enacted legislation) a complete and exhaustive reconstruction of the facts.”
In other words, those involved are not yet formally under investigation. With this procedure, the public prosecutor records the subjects to whom a crime is attributed committed in clear presence of a justification cause (for example, self-defense). It avoids immediate registration in the register of suspects, protecting the subject during the checks.
