Forlì, September 5, 2026 – Electrolux’s toll remains very high: the two days of talks at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy in Rome, Thursday and Friday, leave 297 redundancies on the table at the Viale Bologna plant, 214 among production workers and 83 in the staff. This is just over one hundred fewer than the approximately 400 announced in the initial plan presented in May. Overall production would drop from about 1.58 million to 1.187 million pieces.

“We are back to square one”
“The conclusions of the latest round of talks are nothing good,” jointly declare in a statement the President of the Region Michele de Pascale and the Regional Labor Councillor, Giovanni Paglia. “Basically, after months of discussion and apparent openings, we are back to square one, with very heavy redundancies, line closures, and the abandonment without prospects of the Cerreto d’Esi site (in the province of Ancona) – the administrators emphasize –. In the coming hours, we will ask the trade unions and local institutions for a meeting, to share an assessment and jointly establish the next steps. From the beginning, we said that the dispute did not only concern the workers involved, but the entire country and its industrial future. For this reason, it is a political matter that can only be resolved politically, as the unions rightly continue to demand.”
The request to Palazzo Chigi
From Bologna the request is addressed directly to the Government: “We ask Palazzo Chigi to fully take responsibility for finding a solution, in direct talks with the ownership – the statement continues –. The tools and possible solutions capable of guaranteeing Electrolux development in the country have been known to everyone from the start. Whether to adopt them or not means knowing and wanting to build a strategic relationship between Italy and the ownership. Now it is a matter of understanding whether the Meloni Government wants to fully exercise its role or not. From the Emilia-Romagna Region, it will find maximum cooperation and availability, as it has been from the first minute. The same availability will be found by workers and trade unions for all mobilization initiatives they wish to undertake.”
The words of Maurizio Landini
The Electrolux dispute also entered the speech with which on Friday Maurizio Landini, national secretary of the CGIL, spoke during the provincial union’s celebration. “The news coming from the meetings held these days at the Ministry is not positive. We are not moving in the direction of a new project and I believe that the trade unions and workers have said very clearly and asked the group to change the industrial plan, because we are not willing to manage layoffs nor, much less, plant closures – the union leader observes –. Also in this case, I believe it is important that workers are not left alone and there is a need for the intervention of the Government and institutions to support the workers’ struggle, to make the group change its mind and reaffirm the will to continue producing and investing in our country.” The unions have announced eight hours of strike, the modalities of which will be defined in the coming hours, while the state of agitation continues throughout the group.
