San Marino, August 9, 2026 – The sun beats down hard on the pool of the Centro Vacanze San Marino, in Cailungo. It is a late August morning, it is hot, around the water there are families and tourists. A scene of absolute normality that, within a few moments, turns into fear. Someone sees a motionless child in the water. He is just three years old. The alarm goes off and a race against time begins to save him.

The alarm went off this morning shortly after 11
It is about 11:20 today when some swimmers of Dutch nationality notice the little one, an Italian child born in 2022, unconscious inside the pool. They are the ones to intervene first. The child is recovered and rescue maneuvers immediately begin, in which the lifeguard present at the facility also participates.
The race against time to save the little one
Around are tense moments. The call for help is received by the interforce Operations Center, which also sends a patrol of the San Marino Police to Cailungo. When the officers reach the pool, the 118 personnel are already on site and are providing first aid to the child. The police officers immediately make themselves available to the medical staff, while operations continue to try to stabilize the little one.
They are endless minutes for those witnessing the scene. The carefreeness of a day spent at the pool gives way to silence and apprehension. The rescuers manage to resuscitate the child, who is then prepared for transport to the hospital.

The child was transferred to the Infermi hospital
The first ambulance run is towards the State Hospital of San Marino. Here the child receives first aid, but the clinical picture remains extremely delicate. The transfer to the Infermi hospital in Rimini is therefore decided, where he arrives in reserved prognosis and is entrusted to the doctors. His condition remains serious.
Testimonies and surveillance footage to reconstruct what happened
While all attention is focused on the little one’s battle, work begins in Cailungo to reconstruct exactly what happened. The question the investigators must answer is above all one: how did the child end up unconscious in the water and how long did he remain there? The Police have begun collecting testimonies from those present and have carried out the necessary surveys. Surveillance footage from cameras available in the facility has also been acquired.
It will be the images, together with the witnesses’ accounts, that will allow the last moments before the alarm to be lined up and the dynamics to be reconstructed in detail.
