Rome, September 2, 2026 – After the meeting between Rai In-Depth director Paolo Corsini and the members of the Report editorial staff, which had reopened the dialogue on the future of the program, a first breakthrough arrived in the evening on the case that is monopolizing the attention of public television. Giulia Presutti, indicated as host together with Daniele Piervincenzi, has decided to step back.

In an email sent to Corsini, she explained that she made the decision “in the hope of helping the program that trained me and to which I had the honor to contribute. Such a beloved program, which has given so much to the public and to our company, cannot get bogged down in such small discussions and exchanges, nor do I believe its future can be tied to individual names and personalities,” wrote the journalist, making herself available to Rai.

The company reportedly tried to make her change her mind, but Presutti, having acknowledged the editorial staff’s position, remained firm in her decision. Corsini, after meeting with the In-Depth Cdr and the Usigrai secretary, took 24 hours to make his assessments in search of a solution that could prevent the departure of the correspondents and the postponement of the program, which should start on November 8 on Rai3. The sticking point, precisely the choice of hosts, Presutti and Piervincenzi, considered by colleagues unsuitable for the role.

Corsini listened to the position of the journalists and the staff, then deciding to schedule a new meeting soon, perhaps as early as tomorrow, to try to overcome the deadlock. The director explained that the new hosts would not have a leading role in the program, which would still be managed by the historic team members, to whom he proposed, so far only receiving a refusal, the role of chief authors.

However, the editorial staff, both from the external and internal correspondents, was adamant on this point, arguing that the faces of the program are central because they represent it to the public, and reiterating the need for figures that guarantee the identity and independence of the program. However, the company is confident that the journalists might also make some concessions, possibly allowing a rotating hosting. Presutti and Piervincenzi tried to participate in the meeting, but Corsini asked them to wait outside, so there was no confrontation with colleagues.

Today the first was again targeted by Sigfrido Ranucci, who commented on Facebook on the news published by Il Domani, according to which Presutti would have been the author, together with Alessandro Perozzi, of a ‘fake report’ on the Cutro massacre aired on Agorà on Rai3 in 2023. “If confirmed, it would be very serious,” wrote the former host. Meanwhile, her lawyer Roberto De Vita stated that “Rai, after formally declaring the existence of ‘continuous pressures, opacity, mixing, interference, objective incompatibility,’ communicated that it does not intend to specify the reasons for what it wrote with the removal measure.”

The company actually stated that it delivered the requested documentation, which was evidently deemed insufficient by the lawyers. “It is the lack of factual reasons or explicable reasons – De Vita continued -. Serious that an employer does this, even more serious that a public company does this.” Words that foreshadow the start of legal action, which seemed already inevitable, against Rai’s decision.
