In the bodycam footage, the key to Fakir's death: “It shows he was resuscitated for a long time”

Bologna, July 22, 2026 – Not only the images, but also the video returned by the bodycam switched on by one of the officers: this could be the key to accurately reconstruct what happened. The bodycam, switched on immediately before the man was tackled, remained on for a long time even after the containment phase ended. And it frames the resuscitation operations carried out by the paramedics. Which would have lasted about fifteen minutes. Unfortunately, they proved to be in vain.

Officers waited half an hour before intervening

The officers waited about half an hour before intervening, but when Fakir attacked a citizen who had just gotten out of a car, they felt compelled to intervene and sprang into action, tackling him. The man remained tied hand and foot, one of the most contested images of the event, among the reasons that sparked the very strong protests in Bologna in recent days.

Perhaps still alive when officers got up

It would then appear from the images that Fakir was still alive when the officers got up. The autopsy will be entrusted on Friday to a team of experts, including forensic pathologist Cristina Basso, considered among the international experts on sudden death and who, among other things, dealt with the case of Davide Astori, a Fiorentina player, who died suddenly while in training camp with the team at the age of just 31.

The autopsy examination on Fakir will begin on Friday. Then the body will be returned to the victim’s family.
