In the city without breath, the alert remains for extreme temperatures: Ausl's advice to counter heat and discomfort

Heat wave, the Ausl alert

The heat wave will continue at least until Wednesday, August 12 also in Bologna, in the neighboring municipalities and in numerous centers of the plain. The Bologna Usl Company has strengthened the measures of prevention and assistance planned to face the high temperatures, with particular attention to the most vulnerable groups. Among the Ausl recommendations is first of all to drink plenty of water and frequently, even in the absence of thirst, unless otherwise indicated by your doctor. It is better to avoid ice-cold or too cold water, as well as carbonated and sugary drinks, alcohol, and beverages containing caffeine. It is recommended instead to consume plenty of fruit and vegetables.

To help the body maintain an adequate temperature, Ausl suggests baths or showers with lukewarm water. The air conditioner should also be used correctly, maintaining a difference between indoor and outdoor temperature not exceeding 6-7 degrees. Fans can help air circulation, but should not be pointed directly at the body. During the hottest days, it is also advisable to avoid going out during the central hours, roughly between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Particular attention should be paid to people who are not self-sufficient, to elderly people living alone, and to those who may have difficulties orienting themselves in time and space.

In the metropolitan area, Aft general medicine clinics are also available, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., which can offer care and assistance during the day. For more serious emergencies, the reference number is 112, while the regional Health Service toll-free number 800 033 033 is active on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m..
