Ancona, August 26, 2026 – Scare for Sofia Raffaeli, one of the stars of Italian and world rhythmic gymnastics, who was involved a few days ago in a road accident while returning from the World Championships in Frankfurt, where she had won a silver medal, a bronze medal, and secured the first Italian pass for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
The accident on the A14
The accident occurred on the A14, in the stretch between Forlì and Cesena. The car she was traveling in collided with a truck. An impact that made them fear the worst, especially due to the violence of the collision and the dynamics of the accident.
The athlete in hospital
Raffaeli was transported to the hospital for checks and treatment. The gymnast sustained some cuts to an arm, but fortunately, her condition is not a cause for concern. After the initial moments of apprehension, the clinical picture appeared much more reassuring. However, the fear was great. Sofia had returned from another important international experience, concluded with two podium finishes that had once again confirmed her talent and competitiveness at the highest levels. A positive trip that, on the way back, risked turning into a dramatic moment.

Friends and family holding their breath
The accident inevitably caused apprehension among family members, teammates, coaches, and fans, who held their breath waiting to learn about the champion’s condition. The news that arrived later, however, helped to scale down the initial alarm and restore serenity to those who were worried about her. Now the goal is to put this bad episode behind her, complete her recovery, and gradually return to daily life and training. The gymnast can thus focus again on the mat and on her great passion, the one that in recent years has brought her to the top of international rhythmic gymnastics.
The return to Fabriano
An encouraging sign arrived last Tuesday, when Sofia returned to Fabriano to visit the club and her teammates. An important presence, which testifies to her desire to look forward and progressively resume her life after the scare experienced on the highway. Returning to the gym and finding the environment that has always accompanied her preparation also represents a significant step towards returning to normality. For a girl accustomed to living every day between training, competitions, and major international events, the accident imposed a pause and reminded her how unpredictable even the simplest moments can be. After the fear on the A14, Sofia is fine. And this, beyond medals and results, is the most important success.
