Reggio Emilia, July 22, 2026 – The autopsy on 41-year-old Alessandro Magnani, who died in Cognento di Campagnola following a road accident in which Paolo Belli, the well-known singer and television host from Carpi, was also involved, has been completed.

His name has been entered in the register of suspects, as is customary in these cases, for the hypothesis of road homicide, in order to carry out the necessary investigations to reconstruct what happened.
The Prosecutor’s Investigations
It will take time, however, to complete all the examinations and know the outcome of the investigation ordered by the Prosecutor’s Office into the causes of death, which took place at the Parma morgue: the victim, who lived in Canolo di Correggio, had been airlifted on July 13 to Maggiore hospital and died the next day, without ever regaining consciousness. The examination ordered by public prosecutor Valentina Salvi was entrusted to Professor Valentina Bugelli.
Paolo Belli’s defense has appointed its own technical consultant
Belli’s defense, represented by lawyers Ruggero Fregni and Marco Vezzani, has also appointed its own technical consultant, forensic doctor Silvestri, and the family members of the deceased boy, protected by lawyer Giuseppe Mosca, have done the same.

The tragedy last Monday
Last Monday at noon, before the tragedy, the singer was cycling, while Magnani, an employee of a service company, was leaving a house on Via Picenardi in Cognento on foot. According to an initial reconstruction, as he was returning to his car, the pedestrian was hit by the bicycle Belli was riding. Following the impact, Belli also fell: treated on the spot, he was then taken to Guastalla hospital for a check-up. Local police officers from the Union of Municipalities of the Reggio Emilia Plain recorded the accident on site.
Answers from the autopsy
An answer regarding the causes of the accident may come from the autopsy: for example, if the impact with the bicycle caused the fall and thus a possible head trauma that later proved fatal, or if Magnani had an illness or slipped.
On Monday, tissue samples were taken which will need to be analyzed to understand the causes of death: it will probably be necessary to wait until September for the first results.
