Macerata, July 25, 2026 – Alcohol and psychotropic drugs in high concentrations. This was found in the blood of Christian Perugini, the 41-year-old from Morrovalle who died in a road accident with three very young people from Macerata, the twenty-year-olds Nicolas Calabrese, Giorgio Franceschini and Daniele Francalancia, last June 14 along the Val di Chienti highway, between Trodica di Morrovalle and Corridonia.
To clarify all the circumstances of this tragic event, deputy prosecutor Stefania Ciccioli had ordered a cadaveric inspection, performed by forensic doctor Roberto Scendoni, and a toxicological consultation, entrusted to professor Rino Froldi.
The results of this last assessment were delivered to the prosecutor’s office last week, and represent an essential piece for clarifying the dynamics and responsibilities regarding what happened.
The verdict of the toxicological analyses
From the toxicological analyses it emerged that Perugini, at dawn that Sunday, had gotten behind the wheel of his Lancia Musa despite having drunk alcohol and taken psychotropic drugs. In both cases, the concentrations were high, and moreover, the effects of alcohol and substances are amplified when they are mixed.
The man from Morrovalle had entered the highway from the hinterland to return home. But after Corridonia, in a section where traffic proceeded in both directions on the same lane due to roadworks, he allegedly hit the Fiat Punto that was proceeding in the opposite direction, sending it off the road.
A tremendous impact, which had killed both Perugini and the twenty-year-old from Macerata Nicolas Calabrese, on board the Punto, instantly; then in the following hours, the very serious injuries also proved fatal for Giorgio Franceschini and Daniele Francalancia, both of whom died at twenty years old in Ancona hospital despite the desperate attempts by Torrette doctors to save them. The other two passengers of the Punto, Michele Calcagni and Simone Bracaccini from Macerata, were seriously injured but fortunately still alive.

With the medico-legal and toxicological investigations completed, at this point only the final report from the traffic police is missing, who had carried out the on-site surveys and collected testimonies from other motorists present that morning.
Then deputy prosecutor Ciccioli will be able to close the file. From the point of view of any criminal liability, the crime is extinguished with the death of the offender, so the file will be archived and there will be no trials or convictions. However, the civil case remains open for possible compensation, and for this reason, as well as for the seriousness of the matter, the prosecutor’s office still wanted to go all the way to reconstruct the facts from all points of view, for further implications and repercussions.
Deep trauma for the community
The accident that Sunday morning was a deep trauma for the city community and beyond.
Four lives cut short, including those of three very young people, students and athletes full of life and projects, and a host of shocked family and friends. The parents of the boys have created an association, called «Tristar», to carry on their memory and organize initiatives, especially in the sports field, in the name of Nicolas, Giorgio and Daniele. A network of solidarity and affection has been created around them.
