Cesenatico (Cesena), August 5, 2026 – In the case of scams targeting tourists, with holidays sold online at rock-bottom prices in non-existent residences in Cesenatico and Milano Marittima, the case of a family that was deceived twice emerges. It involves five people from Belgium who, after a long car journey, last Monday discovered that the Residence Da Andrea did not exist on the central Viale Giovanni Pascoli in Cesenatico. “It was a hard blow – says the head of the family –, because the trip was long and we couldn’t wait to settle into the residence in Cesenatico and then go to the sea. Instead, we were greeted by the staff of an insurance company and there was no trace of the residence.”
The second residence also turns out to be non-existent
At that point, the Belgian family took action to get assistance and look for an alternative accommodation through Booking, with which they had already made the first reservation. The solution found at that price was a residence in the Cervia area. “We got back in the car and went to Milano Marittima – continues the head of the family –, but when we arrived that residence also turned out to be non-existent.”

Disheartened, the Belgian family returned to Cesenatico, where fortunately the solidarity machine worked: “Thanks to the Tourism Office and the hoteliers, we found a hotel with accommodation at an affordable price until next August 10, so finally we are on vacation.”

The teamwork implemented by the Municipality
The case of the family scammed twice is emblematic, as it shows how easy it is to fall for online scams. One way to protect yourself, however, is to always stay within the platform and check if the accommodation found has reviews, because if there isn’t even one, the facility could be non-existent. A positive aspect of this story is instead represented by the teamwork implemented by the Municipality, the Cesenatico tourism office, Adac Federalberghi, and the Cesenatico Camping Village, which made it possible to find a solution for almost all the scammed families, allowing them to save their vacation and not lose money.
