Venice, September 14, 2026 – They were passionate about fishing, their world was the sea. The sea that tragically swallowed them yesterday. Sean Michieli and Gabriela Querino had been married for three months and were expecting their first child. They were boating when a collision with a water taxi in the Tessera canal ended their lives. The tragic news was also shared by Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto Regional Council, who shared various information and photos of the young couple.

Young and at the beginning of their married life, but a tragic fate overwhelmed them. Sean Michieli was 25 years old, a fisherman born into a family of fishermen. He had passed on his passion to his wife Gabriella Querino, 26 years old of Brazilian origin.
While Sean was recovered in very serious condition and was declared dead at the hospital in the evening; there is still no trace of the wife’s body.
Gabriella’s family is in Brazil
They lived in Burano, from where they set off by boat on Saturday morning in search of bait. They were seen leaving at 5 in the morning.
Gabriella was alone in Italy, having arrived 3 years ago to work as a model. Her family of origin remained in Brazil and is trying to find a way to come to Italy. Gabriella’s sister, the Corriere reports, has launched a fundraising campaign to be able to reach Venice and follow the search efforts.
Sean: the passion for the family business
Sean was born and raised in a family of fishermen. He had chosen to continue the business in Cavallino-Treporti as a clam fisherman, after attending hospitality school in Jesolo. He had met Gabriella about a year and a half ago, then the wedding as seen in the photos at the Venice town hall last June 8.
The tragic accident, in which the small boat the couple was traveling on sank, broke their young lives, but also the hearts of those who knew them, as well as those who in these hours have learned the news with dismay and left messages of condolence or prayers in the numerous comments on social media.
