Bologna, July 26, 2026 – The bad weather has arrived in Emilia Romagna. The thunderstorms had been announced by the weather forecasts and by the alert issued yesterday by civil protection and valid for today. Firefighters are at work with the first interventions. In Bologna they intervened on the Reno river near the town of Marzabotto to rescue two hikers camped inside the riverbed. The two, Italians aged 25 and 35, at dawn, due to the strong thunderstorm and the river increasing its flow, panicked, unable to climb the steep bend to get out of the riverbed. In Forlì, according to Meteo-PedemontanaForlivese, a lightning strike hit and set fire to a cypress tree at the Branzolino cemetery and a car was stuck in an underpass due to flooding. An extensive storm system hit Romagna after having discharged large quantities of rain in Tuscany. In the coming hours, clearings will be widespread throughout Emilia Romagna but from early afternoon new thunderstorms will begin to form.

During the night there were about fifteen interventions by firefighters in the Bologna area between fallen trees and water damage in basements
In the next 2/3 hours, clearings will be widespread throughout Emilia Romagna but from early afternoon new thunderstorms will begin to form on the Emilian Apennines, particularly between Piacenza and Parma, then towards Ferrara and northern Ravenna. Some quick thunderstorms are not to be excluded in Romagna.

At 6:15 AM, 2 teams of firefighters, with the aid of the Drago 147 helicopter from the Bologna flight department, intervened on the Reno river near the town of Marzabotto to rescue two hikers camped inside the riverbed. The two, Italians aged 25 and 35, at dawn, due to the strong thunderstorm and the river increasing its flow, panicked, unable to climb the steep bend to get out of the riverbed. The helicopter personnel who intervened on site were forced to perform a rescue with the winch in stationary flight (hovering). Once rescued, cold but in good health, the two were entrusted to the medical staff for checks at the Marzabotto sports field.
Already at 5:25 AM, thunderstorms were already present on the Apennines between Reggio Emilia and Modena, then moved towards their respective plain areas and towards Bologna. Intense phenomena occurred between Marano sul Panaro, Pavullo nel Frignano, and Sestola.
