Bologna, July 30, 2026 –  A separate section from the procession commemorating the 46th anniversary of the Bologna Station massacre, to remember, during August 2, “also the other state murders and massacres, from Fakir’s to the Uno Bianca”.  The decision to organize an independent initiative, by the activists, comes after days of strong tension in the city, following the violent clashes that broke out on July 20 in the city center between some protesters and law enforcement, on the sidelines of the moment of remembrance promoted by Mayor Matteo Lepore and Fakir’s family to remember the 42-year-old, who died the day before.

The announcement on social media by Potere al Popolo Bologna

The announcement was made on social media by Potere al Popolo Bologna, which invited social, union, political groups and citizens to “relauch the battle for truth and justice”.  The goal, more than ten days after the death of Abderrahim Fakir, which occurred in the Pilastro district of Bologna during a police detention, is “opposition to the co-management of ‘security’ with the Lepore-Piantedosi pact and the construction of true security: social security,” they wrote on social media.

Mayor Lepore: “The procession will be important for the city and peaceful”

Lepore reiterated that Bologna remains “a city wounded” by what happened to Fakir and called for peaceful participation in the remembrance events. An appeal to break down all forms of violence was also made by Paolo Lambertini, president of the association of the victims’ families of the Bologna Station massacre. “We have always managed these things in democracy, with non-violence. I believe this will also be an important and peaceful procession for the city.” Thus said the mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, on the sidelines of an event in San Lazzaro di Savena, commenting on Potere al Popolo’s decision to participate in the August 2 procession, for the 46th anniversary of the Bologna station massacre, with a separate section. The activists, in fact, announced they want to remember during the commemoration, among other things, also Abderrahim Fakir.  For the mayor, “this is being sold as a novelty, but in all processions there has always been some group that slipped in, saying things perhaps different from the families. But – Lepore concludes – they have always been kept away by the great democratic strength of the procession of Bologna citizens.”
