Bologna, July 30, 2026 — Emilia-Romagna is preparing to face the peak of the heatwave. After days of high temperatures, the Ministry of Health has included some Italian cities in Emilia-Romagna among those with a red alert for Saturday, August 1st, the highest level of alert indicating health risk conditions not only for the most vulnerable people but also for healthy and active individuals. The capital of Emilia will thus enter the group of 19 Italian cities affected by the highest alert level, while the thermometer will continue to rise in the coming hours. Already today, temperatures will reach values between 36 and 38 degrees in the hottest areas of the region. Friday will see a further jump in heat: widespread peaks between 39 and 40 degrees are expected on the Emilia-Romagna plains, with values locally possibly reaching 41 degrees. This situation makes it particularly important to limit exposure during the central hours of the day, hydrate frequently, and pay special attention to the elderly, children, and people with chronic illnesses.
Friday, July 31: expected peaks of 40 degrees
The first ‘fever day’ will be Friday, July 31, with maximum temperatures in Emilia Romagna already around 38°C. Modena is one of the hottest areas. And Bologna will be red alert. According to the regional Civil Protection forecasts, the day will be characterized by mostly clear skies. In the afternoon, cumulus clouds will develop along the Apennine ridge in Emilia, with the possibility of brief and isolated thunderstorms.
In the evening, cloudiness will increase in the western sectors, where thunderstorms may locally extend to the plains. Temperatures will continue to rise: minimums will range between 20 and 24 degrees, while maximums will oscillate between 31 and 35 degrees along the coast and between 35 and 37 degrees in the inland plains. Winds will remain weak and variable, with calm or slightly rough seas.
Saturday, August 1: red alert and high humidity
Saturday will be one of the most delicate days. The sky will remain clear or slightly cloudy, with some afternoon cloud buildup on the hills that may cause brief thunderstorms, but without significant effects on the heat.

Minimum temperatures will range between 22 and 25 degrees, while maximums will reach 31-36 degrees along the coast and up to 37-38 degrees in the inland plains. The Civil Protection reports widespread bioclimatic discomfort conditions, worsened by high humidity which will increase the perceived temperature. Winds will also be weak on this day and the sea will be calm or slightly rough.
The heatwave thus confirms its intensity right at the beginning of August. For those who can, the advice remains to avoid physical activities during the hottest hours, favor cool environments, and drink regularly even without feeling thirsty, to limit the effects of the exceptional temperatures expected in the region.
In particular, on Saturday, Bologna will experience the fifth consecutive day of at least mild discomfort conditions. Therefore, bioclimatic conditions of severe discomfort will occur and persist into Sunday.
