Rimini, August 9, 2026 – The details remain unclear regarding the serious accident that occurred this afternoon at the Rimini railway station, where a boy was hit by a Frecciarossa train arriving from Bologna.

The circumstances are being investigated by Polfer officers: at the moment it is unclear whether it was an accident, a deliberate act, or another circumstance.
The boy was struck and thrown onto the platform: immediate alarm
Everything happened shortly after 5 p.m. on platform 3. The Frecciarossa, coming from Bologna and heading to Lecce, was entering the Rimini station and was slowing down to make the scheduled stop. It was at that moment that the accident occurred. According to an initial reconstruction, the boy was hit by the front part of the locomotive and, after the impact, was thrown onto the platform. The alarm was immediately raised.

The boy was transferred to Bufalini in Cesena
Emergency medical personnel from 118 arrived at the station. His condition appeared serious, prompting an urgent transfer. The boy was initially taken to the Infermi hospital in Rimini. From there, he was subsequently transferred by helicopter to Bufalini in Cesena, where he was placed under medical care.

Meanwhile, on platform 3, Polfer investigations have started, tasked with precisely reconstructing what happened in the seconds before the arrival of the Frecciarossa. It is on this point that several aspects still need to be clarified. Investigators will have to determine how the young man ended up on the train’s path and what happened immediately before the collision.
The accident caused disruptions on the line: delays up to 40 minutes
At the moment, the most likely hypothesis seems to be a deliberate act, although Polfer investigations are still ongoing and the possibility of an accident is not entirely ruled out. During rescue operations and investigations, traffic inside Rimini station was temporarily suspended. The all clear for trains to resume came around 5:40 p.m. The accident caused disruptions on the line, with delays of up to about 40 minutes for Frecce, Intercity, and Regional trains.
