Elia, after the accident music as rebirth
Elia Toselli, 35 years old from Sant’Agostino (Ferrara), known as Il Tose, managed to leave the accident behind, making music his rebirth, a new opportunity. And on Wednesday, August 12, at 9 PM he will take the stage at Voci dal Parco in the garden of the Sanctuary of the Rocca di Cento (Ferrara), a special guest of the show by Stefano Caleffi and Roberta Righi, part of his long journey of rebirth that he will tell.
The terrible crash that took away his speech and the life he knew
That accident, in fact, took away the life he knew but also his speech, struggling to say what his brain wanted to scream. Today the words come out, with the calm of someone who weighs them, becoming rap telling his rebirth, joys, pains, and dreams.
“The doctors told my mother: either he dies or remains in a vegetative state.” The coma and rehabilitation
“The doctors told my mother: “80% die, 20% remain vegetative. I am here. I think. I speak, a little – he recounts the distancing of friends and girlfriend – I tried to come back, but I struggled to speak, to walk. They couldn’t do it. My family helped me.” Two months in a coma, two years of rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and speech therapy. A very tough journey, a changed life where Elia found his lifeline.
“I started writing songs to express what I feel”
“I started writing songs to express what I feel. Music became my life therapy – he explains – I fill notebooks and smartphones with thoughts, emotions, and words. Then they become music but also videos on social media. I write what I think. What I feel. Wherever I get an idea, I write it down.” Among his lyrics is ‘Resto qua’, dedicated precisely to rebirth after the accident but also one about his new world.

“Life is one and I had a second chance”
“It’s called ‘Un mondo profondo’ and it says that ‘my revolution is to write every emotion of mine and then sing it – he continues – but also that life is one. I had a second chance and now I don’t intend to miss a single opportunity.” From big to small. Music has been a great tool for vocal and cognitive recovery thanks to the path made with Stefano Caleffi, Roberta Righi, and maestro Francesco Cairo, among exercises, support, and courage, teaching him to give voice to his songs.”
“I would like Vasco or Two Fingerz to sing one of my songs, maybe with me”
“Music also helps me speak. And I want to go further and further. You have to dream – he says – I would like Vasco or Two Fingerz to sing one of my songs. Maybe with me.”
The most intense moment is a story of when he was between life and death. “I saw a person who told me “You are not in heaven, you are still here” and who told me he was the grandfather I never knew – he says – when I came back, I asked and they told me he was a smooth music composer. Maybe that’s where my passion was born.”

The mother: “He was mute and started again from the alphabet, now it’s a great emotion to see him perform”
“Elia recognized him a few years later, looking at a photo – these are the words of mother Emanuela Bellini – music was his rebirth. He was mute and started again from the alphabet. We met exceptional people who took Elia to heart and started this whole rehabilitation journey. Music is his reason for living. Because these kids who have a disability acquired during life, especially in small towns, don’t have many outlets, associations, or adequate things. If I think about his path, for me it’s always a great emotion to see him perform because he might not have had that chance. Still being in an intensive care bed where I and his sister sang to his ear hoping he could hear us. I would like him to be able to fulfill his dream of being known for his music. I’m signing him up for all the talent shows. Who knows….”.
