Bologna, August 16, 2026 – Alert for severe thunderstorms, tomorrow in Emilia-Romagna: as already announced by the weather forecast, Monday, August 17 will be the day of the break: the scorching heat takes a pause, but tomorrow’s disturbance will not be enough to completely sweep it away.
In short, it will not be the classic storm expected around Ferragosto, but the temperatures will still drop.
Already from tomorrow, when the highs of the high pressure will tend to move towards the Atlantic, allowing a depression trough coming from Central Europe to approach the Mediterranean and partly affect Italy as well.
Shortly after, another Atlantic-origin disturbance will arrive in Emilia-Romagna, from Thursday, August 20, which could further lower the temperatures “after the temporary rise of a high-pressure ridge” on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 August.
The intensity and effects of the thunderstorms on Monday, August 17
On Monday, August 17 “conditions favorable to the development of severe thunderstorms are expected, with possible associated effects and damages,” Arpae reports, in agreement with Civil Protection, in the yellow weather alert bulletin (ordinary criticality).
What effects? “Precipitation may cause occasional landslides, runoff, rapid rises in water levels of the minor network and flooding in urban areas.”

When and where thunderstorms in Emilia-Romagna
“The phenomena – continues Arpae – will be more likely from the early afternoon on the hills, then progressing towards the plain and the coast. In the evening, the coastal sector may be affected by the passage of a further thunderstorm impulse over the Adriatic, moving from northwest to southeast, and by the associated wind gusts.”
When the next disturbance arrives
From Thursday, August 20, “the approach of an Atlantic-origin depression wave will favor an increase in cloud cover with scattered precipitation. Temperatures falling,” reports Arpae.
Who knows if, finally, the oppressive and prolonged heat, which has brought the Adriatic Sea to reach peaks of 31 degrees offshore in Romagna, will be swept away.
