The singer-songwriter Vinicio Capossela, with a post on Instagram, expresses his support for the ongoing sit-in of activists and citizens, in the green area along Via Emilia Ospizio where, according to agreements between the Municipality and Conad Centro Nord, work must begin for the construction of a new supermarket.
At the same time, the project called ‘Pru Ospizio’ also includes the construction of public works intended to host a territorial hub, health center, and library. In early August, during the very first days of the sit-in, activists physically blocked the bulldozers which, from that moment on, have not returned.
The protest has spread like wildfire
In recent weeks the protest has attracted national and even international attention, drawing environmentalists from various parts of Italy to Reggio to support the battle of the Bosco Ospizio Assembly. Conad has filed a preventive complaint against unknown persons for trespassing on private property and private violence. The retail giant recently met with the Municipality and today, a meeting is scheduled at City Hall between Mayor Massari and a delegation of activists.
“Thank you for reminding us that it can be done”
The “hypermarket plain,” along with a great civil history, also carries one of the highest land consumption rates in the country – says Capossela –. You can’t always say: “Now nothing can be done anymore.” It is precisely now that, to quote Mel Brooks: “It can be done!”. In fact, it must be done.” The issue is not only ecological: “The sale to private parties of large portions of public assets is rewriting the territory without considering those who live there – he concludes –. Solidarity with Bosco Ospizio and thank you for reminding us that ‘it can be done’.”
