Rimini, August 20, 2026 – Eleven hours. A marathon. That is how long Pope Leo XIV’s visit to San Marino and Rimini the day after tomorrow, Saturday, August 22 will last.

The Vatican has released the detailed schedule of the day, minute by minute. And there is a surprise stop: before reaching Rimini, the Holy Father will visit the Augustinian nuns at the convent in Pennabilli. Here is the official program of the visit.

The first stop in San Marino

The Pope will arrive around 9 by helicopter at San Marino, at the Torraccia airfield, welcomed by the bishop and San Marino authorities. From here he will reach Piazza della Libertà, where (at 9:45) he will be received with full military honors and the playing of the anthems.

At 10, accompanied by the Captains Regent, the Holy Father will enter the Public Palace: he will meet all the secretaries of state and deliver a speech in the Great and General Council hall.

Around 11:15 one of the most anticipated moments: the Pontiff will appear on the balcony of the Public Palace to greet the crowd in the square and give a brief speech.

Immediately after (at 11:45), the visit to the Basilica of Saint Marino together with Bishop Domenico Beneventi and Don Marco Mazzanti, rector of the cathedral, where he will pray over the saint’s relics. The visit will conclude with greetings to the faithful (at 12:15).

The second stop in Pennabilli

Leaving San Marino, the Pontiff will go to Pennabilli and meet the Augustinian nuns of the Monastery of Saint Anthony.

A visit that Pope Leo cares about deeply: when he was the general prior of the Augustinian order, he visited twice, in 2005 and 2009.

The visit to the nuns will be held privately.

At 14:45 the Holy Father will arrive at the Rimini Fair heliport to meet the CL people at the Meeting.

The first stops: visits to the exhibitions on Saint Augustine and Leon Harmel (from 15:00 to 15:30) then to the Youth Village where he will greet the young people and CL volunteers. At 16:00, in the auditorium, Leo’s meeting with the Meeting audience will begin: there will be 20,000 people in the hall, and large screens will also be available to allow everyone to follow the event live.

The meeting in the Cathedral and the mass at the port

From the Meeting, the Holy Father will reach the Cathedral in the popemobile, for the meeting with the sick, disabled, and poor assisted by Caritas, together with Bishop Nicolò Anselmi. Along the route, there will be stations to greet the Pontiff.

From the Cathedral, still in the popemobile, Leo will cross the city and pass along the seafront to reach Piazzale Boscovich. Here, at 18:30, the Pope will celebrate the final mass in front of tens of thousands of people.

Over 25,000 seats made available in the port area: only those with a pass will enter, seats are already almost all booked. There will also be thousands of faithful outside. The mass will conclude around 20:00 and from the port the Pontiff will board the helicopter to return to the Vatican.
