Modena, August 25, 2026 — A meeting that comes at a time when a face of Italian music is preparing to face a new challenge. Gerardina Trovato reached Nek in Sicily, at Marina di Modica (Ragusa), where the singer-songwriter was for a performance, and the two shared a simple but affectionate moment on social media. For the Catania singer, in fact, a delicate throat surgery is approaching that forced her to stop her summer commitments.
Nek: “Gerardina, you will come back better than before”
The meeting was recounted by Nek himself in a video posted on social media. “Gerardina came to see me because I am in her Sicily,” explains the singer, before addressing his colleague directly. Then the hug and above all a message meant to accompany her through the most difficult moment: “A very delicate operation, that’s why we send you our best wishes — the singer said — we have to stay close to her. Hugging you Gerardina. You will come back better than before.” Words that gave the video an even more intense tone, precisely because they come on the eve of the operation.
The story of Gerardina
The recent story of Trovato is that of a singer who, after being away from the spotlight for a long time, had regained contact with the public. Success came very young, with the second place among the Newcomers at Sanremo 1993 thanks to ‘Ma non ho più la mia città’, followed by other songs and the collaboration with Andrea Bocelli in ‘Vivere’. Then complicated years, away from the stage, until the renewed attention received in summer 2024, when some videos on social media brought her voice and story back to the center of attention.
Precisely when 2026 seemed to represent a new restart, the stop came. In July, Trovato had announced the suspension of concerts explaining that she had to face urgent throat surgery. Examinations had revealed a cyst pressing on the vocal cords, the path now involves surgery and subsequently a period of recovery and voice rehabilitation.
Nek’s message
The summer project, which also included a return to the stage and new music, therefore remained frozen. But Nek’s message goes in the opposite direction of fear: closeness, encouragement and the promise not to leave alone a colleague who is trying to get back on her feet once again. In the video, Trovato appears next to Nek and welcomes that hug at a particularly delicate moment. A meeting born almost spontaneously, but became a small public gesture of solidarity. Because after a long chase to return to music, now the priority is only one: to overcome the operation and return to singing.
