Rimini, September 19, 2026 – Caught at the wheel with a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit, he calls his cousin to get him out of trouble. She gets in the car, reaches the checkpoint, and prepares to recover the truck. But when the officers have the woman blow into the breathalyzer, the surprise comes: she is also drunk, and with an even higher value. This happened in Rimini, on State Road 16, during one of the checks carried out in recent days by the traffic police of Riccione.
Within a few minutes, the officers found themselves facing two relatives who tested positive on the alcohol test, two reports, and two vehicles to be entrusted to someone else. It all started when a patrol of the Riccione traffic police stopped a truck. At the wheel was a 60-year-old resident of the Rimini area. The officers asked for his documents and subjected him to the breathalyzer. The result was clear: the blood alcohol level was about twice the allowed limit. The man was reported for driving under the influence and his license was immediately revoked. Naturally, he could no longer get behind the wheel. The officers then told him to call a trusted person, in suitable condition to drive, to whom he could hand over the truck. The 60-year-old took the phone and called his cousin, a 53-year-old also residing in the Rimini area. The woman arrived shortly after with her own car, ready to pick up her relative and sort out the matter. At least, that’s what she thought. During identification, however, the officers realized something was off and decided to have her take the alcohol test. The device was clear: she was also positive, with a value even slightly higher than her cousin’s. The 53-year-old was also reported for driving under the influence and could not leave.
At that point, the vehicles to be recovered became two: the 60-year-old’s truck and the car used by the woman to reach him. Then a second call was made. This time another relative, sober, was called, who reached the checkpoint and took custody of both vehicles. Only on the third attempt, in short, did the family manage to close the evening. Road checks in the Rimini area will continue to stop those who get behind the wheel after drinking or taking drugs. In the latest annual report, the Rimini traffic police announced that they had recorded 13,296 traffic violations, deducting a total of 21,216 points from licenses. The checks also led to six arrests, 230 reports, and the seizure of 280 vehicles. Additionally, 1,042 licenses were revoked: 282 for driving under the influence and another 16 for drug use.
