Ferrara, July 17, 2026 – It only took a few hours the other night to plunge back into the nightmare, to go back to the last wave of bad weather. To the fury of the water. To flooded houses and basements. To fallen trees on the roads and, in some cases, on passing cars. To people forced to leave their homes, without looking back. If possible, the morning after is worse than the night before, filled with silence and resignation, with the fear that the scorching heat will bring more storms.

“There was water everywhere in the garage”
There are those like Maria Cristina Pariali who gathered, in her garage on Via Volano, every object saved from the fury of the bad weather. The floor still wet and a sleepless night. She is still incredulous: “There was water everywhere in the garage and in the bicycle storage area”.
A few meters ahead, others follow her example: “I managed to save something – says an elderly man –, but the freezer and refrigerator I kept in the basement are to be thrown away. Every time it rains, we get flooded. For those who have basements and garages, damage and inconvenience have become the norm. Is it possible that nothing can be done?”.
Patchy blackout in Ferrara
The bad weather caused many blackouts in a patchy pattern throughout the city. On Via Arginone there is Tommaso Miceli’s gas station: “Since last night (the night before for those reading) there has been no power. The pumps, obviously, do not work. Many customers come who we have to turn away. A big economic loss. The fault? The technicians are working on it and we hope it will be resolved quickly”. Also on Via Arginone the other night, some faced death.
Chills in the taxi in the middle of the storm
Mirko Massei was driving his taxi when a large branch broke off and hit the hood: “If it had hit the roof of the cabin, I certainly wouldn’t be here telling the misadventure”. Among the ‘heroes’ of the bad weather, the doorman of the building near the Astra hotel, Massimo Benigno, who prevented the flooding of a garage with twenty cars.
Here is the thank you letter from a tenant of the building: “If the cars were not submerged, we owe it to our doorman Massimo Benigno. I personally saw him working to install barriers at the ramp entrance preventing water from entering”

Trees knocked down by strong wind
The trees knocked down by the strong gusts of wind were a problem throughout the city. On Via Foro Boario yesterday morning the firefighters were working hard to remove a tree fallen between the road and a house. Many onlookers around the safety cordon. The tree, leaning on the roof of a house, blocked access to the ‘Mercartino’ shop.
Watching the firefighters’ intervention was also Leonardo Cavalcoli: “I am not the owner of Mercatino but I had the keys. I arrived as soon as they called me. The damage? We still can’t understand”.

Gusts that also knocked down the canopy of the fire station parking lot on Viale Krasnodar. After all, the fallen trees set the volunteer machine in motion, with many interventions throughout the city. With a single goal: to restore peace to a broken population.
