Forlì, September 8, 2026 – Luca Spada, the former ambulance driver in prison accused of having killed six patients with air injections, acted based on an “internal, obsessive, and uncontrollable motivational push”, selecting victims, elderly and sick, in ways compatible with a predatory and serial logic.
These are the considerations of the specialists of the Racis of the Carabinieri of Rome, investigative psychology section, to whom the Forlì Prosecutor’s Office entrusted an in-depth study on the personality of the 28-year-old. The report is cited in the opinion of the Public Prosecutor and in the order of the Judge for Preliminary Investigations who in the summer rejected the request for release of the accused.
Spada posted selfies with coffins in chats
Selfies with coffins in the background, photos of hearses, exhumations of corpses, crematorium ovens, with joking comments. These were some of the contents that Luca Spada shared between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, in some group chats he participated in, now part of the investigation records on him. This was revealed to the Carabinieri of Forlì by some work colleagues.
Collaboration with a funeral home agency
Spada, as emerged at the time of his arrest last April, collaborated with a funeral home agency in Meldola, although without a formal employment relationship. This element was scrutinized by investigators searching for a possible motive for the contested acts (in the hypothesis of accusation of homicides committed by injecting air into elderly people transported on rescue vehicles), but was then effectively discarded, since none of the deaths indicated in the files were handled by the company with which Spada had relations.

Macabre content
However, when heard as a witness, a colleague of Spada reported this tendency of his to post the macabre contents of his second activity, with particular tones. In September 2024, for example, there is a photo of Spada in close-up with four coffins in the background and the caption “I’ll accompany you to Edmondo”. In February 2025 other coffins and the comment: “Guys, special offer! They arrived and I don’t know where to put them, if you find someone to sell them to, give me a whistle”, or also in that period an image of a hearse in front of a mortuary and the comment “if you want to take a ride with me just call me”. Another time, an open coffin and the caption “Today is exhumation day”.
That autopsy that would incriminate Spadino
Regarding the 28-year-old from Meldola, former Red Cross driver in prison since last April 11, even the investigators are convinced they have in hand the overwhelming proof of his guilt. In fact, for one of the suspicious cases, the Carabinieri have the autopsy report on the body of Deanna Mambelli, 85 years old, who died in the ambulance on November 25, 2025. The last death in the grim series.
Although Spadino has always denied everything – “I am innocent,” he has said several times – the report shows that Deanna died from an embolism. And the former driver is accused, precisely, of having killed his victims with air: air injected into a vein with a catheter, which triggers a gas embolism. And the heart stops.
