Bologna, July 26, 2026 – A week after the death of Abderrahim Fakir, the 42-year-old who died during a police stop in via Italo Svevo, hundreds of people have gathered a few meters from the place of his disappearance to demand “justice and truth” about the incident with a “popular march” that will cross the Pilastro district.

“We are all Fakir” is written on the banner that will soon open the procession: holding it taut, before the start, young children who loudly demanded “justice” for the 42-year-old.
In the streets of the neighborhood there are Plat, Si Cobas, Giovani Palestinesi, the popular committee Pilastro and MuBasta. The poster was also relaunched by the Cua and Cas collectives and shared by Potere al Popolo. At the moment, no armored vehicles are visible on the horizon.
Meanwhile, the debate on security continues after the news of the escort assigned to Mayor Matteo Lepore.

“The threats directed at Matteo Lepore are very serious and completely unacceptable. Our full solidarity and closeness go to him and his family.” This was stated by the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Michele de Pascale. “The fact that a mayor is forced to live and carry out his work under escort represents a wound for our entire democracy – underlines the governor -. When attempts are made to intimidate with hatred and violence those called to serve their community, the free exercise of democratic institutions is called into question. Differences of opinion are expressed through debate, never with threats.”
In a note released today, the Sim Carabinieri proposes not only that the Bologna mayor, Matteo Lepore, be escorted by Local Police officers but also invites consideration of protection for the police officers involved in the Fakir case. “We learn of the assignment of an escort to the mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, following the threats received in the days after the street demonstrations. We express solidarity in the face of any threat – writes the union -, but we deem it necessary to emphasize the correct management of resources and equal protection for those who serve the State. We believe that, should the mayor require a protection detail, local institutional options are already present: the Local Police should be employed.”
