Bologna, August 15, 2026 – There are also at least thirteen people from Bologna among the thousands of tourists who are currently dealing with fear and disruptions caused by the violent 7.7 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale, which has struck Indonesia with already about forty confirmed deaths among the population.

The vacation turned into a moment of terror
The violent magnitude that struck yesterday the island of Flores, in eastern Indonesia, also caught by surprise a group of professionals from Bologna who were there on vacation, with children in tow, for a short cruise in the Komodo archipelago. The first tremors were reportedly felt by the group at dawn (local time), despite the earthquake’s epicenter being about seventy kilometers away from where the thirteen people from Bologna were moored with their boat. The group immediately reached the nearest port to move away from the coast, given the tsunami alert promptly issued by the authorities of Jakarta.

The tourists are in constant contact with the Farnesina
The group therefore escaped to safety by climbing the island’s hills and trying to leave earlier, although all flights immediately after the earthquake were canceled. The tourists are now in constant contact with the Farnesina and the Italian embassy in Indonesia, which “is working to assist all Italians who wish to leave the area,” wrote the Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani himself on X.
