Rimini, August 29, 2026 – Farewell to Adele Forlazzini, the fishmonger of Igea Marina. The historic fishmonger, who became the symbol of a profession and a piece of the city’s history, passed away the other night at 92 years old.
Fishmonger since the age of 7
“When I think of her, I still see her under the sun, on her bike, shouting ‘clams, fish’ and people coming out of their houses to buy,” says Don Marco Foschi. Adele had started working as a fishmonger at only 7 years old: she would go around with a wheelbarrow full of snails and ‘poor things’.
Then came the bike: Adele would leave at dawn and cover up to 30 km a day to bring the catch from the port to the families. “She was a woman of great commitment and great initiative, an eclectic personality who stood out in the area – continues Don Marco –. I still have in my eyes the celebration of her 90th birthday: so lively, full of spirit.” Her passing through the street brought the call of the sea into the homes of Igea every day.
That life of sacrifice and tenacity had also become a public symbol. In 2019 the Municipality inaugurated a statue in the port area depicting her next to the bicycle, a tribute to her and to all the pisaere, the fishermen’s wives who held together work, home, and family.
Farewell messages and the funeral
“Adele, with you goes the history, the tradition, the magic of the fishmongers”, says Mayor Filippo Giorgetti, remembering the azdore who built the Bellaria community. Recently Don Marco had also visited her in the hospital. “She progressively worsened, she passed away peacefully. We will say goodbye to her as she deserves, with all the possible affection – concludes the priest –. With Adele goes one of the last witnesses of that Igea made of sea, hard work, and daily relationships.” The funeral will be Monday at 3:30 pm in the Sacred Heart church of Igea Marina.
