San Benedetto, July 22, 2026 – Tragedy narrowly avoided in a house in the upper town, where yesterday evening’s hail barrage shattered a skylight with a tilt-and-turn opening that was exactly above the crib of a 2-year-old child.
The glass fell onto the mattress below, from a height of about 2 meters, and only by pure chance the child, usually in bed at that time, was not seriously injured. He was, in fact, in the living room for his dad’s birthday.
“We were almost cutting the cake – says Lorenzo, just turned 33 – when the storm hit. Obviously we had very serious damage to our cars, like many others, but only when we returned to the room did we discover that we had escaped a much worse danger.”
“After cleaning everything up we placed an umbrella over the skylight – concludes Lorenzo – hung from a gym weight that kept it quite stable. In the end, fortunately, it remained a night to remember and tell.”

The Riviera delle Palme was particularly hit by the hailstorm, to the point that about 60 people went to the emergency room for minor injuries caused by the hailstones.
Dozens and dozens of cars were damaged between Grottammare and San Benedetto, as well as shattered window panes. Extensive damage also occurred to crops, so much so that on the institutional front, there is a push for a request for a state of emergency.
