Ferrara, August 9, 2026 – Ilaria Cucchi, senator of the Green and Left Alliance, and the Ferrara lawyer Fabio Anselmo are getting married. The ceremony will take place on August 29 in Vallefoglia, province of Pesaro Urbino, in their beloved Marche region. The wedding marks their love story and also a long civil and judicial battle, following the death of Ilaria’s brother, Stefano Cucchi.

The news of the wedding was published by Open, an online newspaper. After years of courtrooms, family pain, and constant political and social commitment, the papers posted in Rome mark the formal beginning of a new chapter for the couple. Fabio Anselmo, a lawyer since 1984, has linked a fundamental part of his career to some of the most delicate cases of judicial news concerning some deaths in custody or during interventions by the police forces.
Among his clients are the families of Federico Aldrovandi – the murder of the eighteen-year-old student was committed by some State Police officers on September 25, 2005, during a police check –, Riccardo Magherini, Giuseppe Uva, Michele Ferulli, Dino Budroni. Recently, Anselmo has also been representing the family of Abderrahim Fakir, who died in Bologna in the Pilastro district after the intervention of the police.

The meeting in 2009 for the Stefano Cucchi case
It was precisely the case of Stefano Cucchi, in 2009, that brought the lawyer and Ilaria Cucchi together, leading them to face long years of hearings, expert reports, and controversies before seeing the judicial truth recognized. And together in 2019 they wrote ‘Courage and Love. Justice for Stefano: our battle to reach the truth’. In the book, published by the Rizzoli publishing house, they recount ten years of judicial and human struggle to shed light on the death of Stefano Cucchi, which occurred on October 22, 2009. Among the pages, the behind-the-scenes of the legal battle and their relationship.
Anselmo – the online newspaper Open also reports – tells about the beginnings of their relationship: “I suddenly found myself with two children to raise and their mother in a coma, it was tough but I managed to carry on until the situation improved. When I fell in love with Ilaria I struggled to feel free, guilt followed me for a long time, but maybe my difficulties also contributed to the empathy between us.”
