Loreto, July 19, 2026 – “My love, my life, you are my constant thought, especially the way you left us, a human beast took you away from us.”
Luigia Fortunato’s mother, Luisa, cannot find peace.
Her screams that cursed night of the 9th tore through the silence of the Loreto neighborhood. “He killed her”, she said, sitting on the sidewalk in front of the house where she was about to bring back her little grandson, taken from her during the fatal quarrel: the one in which the 39-year-old husband stabbed her 50 times.

With difficulty on Friday evening Luisa managed to bring the banner with her daughter’s images to the sanctuary of the Holy House of Loreto. She wavered a couple of times but then gathered strength. She said that phrase, thought it, and wrote it on social media.
Behind an image of the Heaven gates opened by two angels. “Cerignola greets you too, it is full of banners. No one will ever forget you, you made yourself loved by many people,” she continues.
The family is indeed of Apulian origins and all their relatives have reached Loreto to be close to her, to the other son Fortunato, and to the little one.

Little Youssef moved everyone
On Friday evening the family did not want to participate in the procession but then, embraced by the strong hug of the people of Loreto who have adopted her for years now, they gathered strength and with great dignity, in the front row up to the sanctuary’s forecourt, imposing like their pain, everyone made it to the end.
Son Youssef moved everyone with his cheeky smile, at times melancholic, but innocent, of someone who knows what happened but does not fully grasp the present and what will come.
The lawyer: “Voluntary manslaughter? It’s serious to victimize her again”
The battle has just begun. Lawyer Cristina Perozzi, legal counsel for Luigia’s family, strongly criticized the initial charge of voluntary manslaughter advanced by the prosecutor, calling it “serious to victimize her again” after the defense’s statements claiming the woman had first grabbed the knife. Meanwhile, condolences continue to pour in on social media: “We can’t believe it Gina, you were with us the Sunday before your end. Rest in peace,” write some of her friends.
