Modena, July 19, 2026 – Tragedy last night just before 8 PM at 226 Cesare Costa Street in Modena. The victim was Pietro Conti, 92 years old, hit by a car while crossing the street.

According to an initial reconstruction, the elderly man was hit by a Fiat 500 driven by a woman about 60 years old. The driver told the officers she did not notice the pedestrian, who allegedly suddenly appeared and away from the crosswalk. The impact was violent: the man hit the hood and windshield and was thrown to the ground, losing a lot of blood.
The call to emergency services was made immediately. An ambulance and an emergency medical vehicle arrived on the scene within minutes. Given the severity of the injuries, the medical staff loaded the elderly man and rushed him to the Baggiovara hospital. Attempts to save him were unsuccessful: Conti died en route.
The victim lived just a few meters from the accident site. The woman driving stopped immediately to provide assistance. The investigation was carried out by the Local Police, who intervened to reconstruct the dynamics. By order of the magistrate, the Fiat 500 was seized.
