Porto Recanati, July 31, 2026 – “For the third consecutive year, a summer storm surge has brought Scossicci to its knees. Once again, a truth clearly emerges that politics continues to pretend not to see: without protection of the entire coastline, Scossicci will continue to lose beach, environment, wealth, and development opportunities.” This is the appeal launched by the Viva Scossicci committee, made up of various residents and second home owners in the northern area of Porto Recanati. Unfortunately, in recent days, erosion has struck again.
“It is even more paradoxical considering that this very stretch of coast significantly contributes to making Porto Recanati a Blue Flag location – adds the committee –. Letting Scossicci deteriorate means compromising the city’s economic future. It is frustrating to see that, while the majority and opposition continue to spar ahead of the upcoming elections, no one talks about what should be a priority on the political agenda: safeguarding and enhancing Scossicci.”
Furthermore, according to the group of citizens, “the start of work on part of the breakwaters makes it even clearer that without a comprehensive coastal defense intervention, the excluded areas will be increasingly exposed to erosion. Where the new breakwaters are, the coast has been saved and the beach has not suffered damage. But the degradation does not concern only the sea. For years the neighborhood has been waiting for routine maintenance interventions: damaged roads, neglected infrastructure, and public spaces left to their fate mortify residents, tourism operators, and visitors.”
For this reason, the Viva Scossicci committee asks “the Region, the Municipality, and all political forces to take responsibility. Every storm surge and every road in decay are symbols of political failure.”
