The military immediately stopped the bus and subjected the driver to routine checks. The tests revealed an alcohol level exceeding 1 gram per liter, well beyond the permitted limit and incompatible with professional driving, for which the regulations impose a zero limit.
The driver, a resident of the Reggio area, was reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Reggio with the accusation of driving under the influence. At the same time, the carabinieri proceeded to withdraw his driving license.
To ensure the safety of the approximately twenty passengers on board, the journey was immediately interrupted. The travelers waited on site for the arrival of a substitute driver sent by the transport company, which then allowed the service to continue.
In a note, Seta specifies that the driver in question is not a direct employee of the company, “but is an employee of a company that materially manages the service under a subcontracting arrangement”.
Seta “does not have the authority to intervene directly with the driver – the company continues – but has instructed the subcontracting company that, if and when the driver is readmitted to driving, he should never again be employed on the Reggio public transport lines managed on behalf of Seta”.
The company “reserves the right to adopt any further measures necessary to protect its image and the safety of users”.
