Riccione (Rimini), September 10, 2026 — From controversy to legal action. The Municipality of Riccione takes action against the video published in August on the Lega’s TikTok channel and entrusts lawyer Moreno Maresi from the Rimini Bar with the mandate to protect the image and reputation of the city. The administration’s goal is to initiate all necessary legal actions following the dissemination of a video deemed harmful, discriminatory, and defamatory towards Riccione and its tourism vocation and hospitality.
The controversial video
At the center of the matter is the content that appeared on August 5 on the Lega’s TikTok profile. The video imagined a Riccione of 2030 transformed into an overcrowded beach, actually using footage shot in Ceuta, a Spanish city in North Africa, with the presence of many dark-skinned people. Over those images was superimposed the text: “POV: It’s 2030, you are on the beach in Riccione and Matteo Salvini is not the Minister of the Interior”.
A comparison that quickly went viral on social media, surpassing seven hundred thousand views and generating a long trail of offensive comments. Overall, the content published by the same profile against Riccione would have exceeded two million views.
The words of Mayor Angelini
Now the Municipality chooses not to stop at political protest. Mayor Daniela Angelini claims the decision and reiterates the will to defend not only the city’s name but also the image built over the years around Riccione tourism.
“Faced with the arrogance of those who insult Riccione and its founding values, the city’s response translates into the firm protection of its history — declares Mayor Daniela Angelini — We will not back down one millimeter and, as widely announced, we have given the legal mandate to lawyer Moreno Maresi, whom I thank for his availability, to defend our city.” Riccione has “always been a city of welcome, hospitality, and respect, and will never allow the color of people’s skin to be exploited to make crude propaganda, while at the same time sullying our name — concludes the First Citizen — We will go all the way to obtain compensation for the damage to the image and the city’s tourism brand, which we have decided to allocate entirely to the municipal fund to support rent for families in greater economic difficulty.”
The lawyer: “I will thoroughly examine the documents available to protect the city”
A clear position, therefore, that brings the matter to the judicial field. The appointed lawyer will now have to examine the elements collected by the administration, reconstruct every step of the publication, and define the initiatives to be taken in the competent venues. The Municipality thus aims to protect what it considers a damage to the city’s honor, but also the value of a tourism brand that Riccione considers an integral part of its identity. “I wish to thank the Municipality of Riccione for the trust given with the assignment of this important task — declares lawyer Maresi —. From now on, I will proceed with a careful examination of all the documents and elements available, with the precise aim of evaluating and undertaking, in the competent venues, the best initiatives aimed at protecting the reputation and honor of the city of Riccione.” The administration’s request, therefore, does not only concern the removal or contestation of the single content. On the table is the damage that, according to the Municipality, that video would have caused to Riccione’s image. And the possible compensation also takes on a concrete meaning: Angelini announced that, if recognized, it will be entirely allocated to the municipal fund to support families in difficulty with rent payments. A battle born on social media that now moves to the courts.
