Ancona, August 1, 2026 – Green light from the institutions for the project for the reopening of the former Adriatico campsite in Portonovo. It will be called ‘Campeggio il Conero’ and the managers plan to inaugurate the facility as early as next summer, that of 2027. The site is the same as the original project, that is on the land overlooking the Portonovo pier, above Emilia, the former Ramona, with the exit onto the ‘Lago Grande’ parking lot and next to the Seebay hotel. Just these days, preparatory work has started for a series of very delicate interventions after the campsite was seized and closed in June 2010. The management, barring further complaints that could resurface on the horizon as happened just under twenty years ago, will be the same company from that time, the ‘Cooperativa Campeggio il Conero’.

The project: parking spaces
According to the original project which should be partly replicated, within the indicated area, called ‘del Contadino’, from next year up to a maximum of 516 guests could be hosted from July 16 to September 30, while from June 1 to July 15 the maximum allowed capacity is set at 300 units. During the high season there will be 104 pitches available (54 in the ‘low’ period) and parking spaces ranging from 56 to 66.
Permits
After legal skirmishes lasting a quarter of a century, the company that managed the camping during the two summers it was open, those of 2008 and 2009, is back in action and does so with the permits issued by all institutional levels. Most of the bureaucratic part related to permits and paperwork started at the beginning of summer and materialized during this month, even giving the go-ahead to the works, albeit still preliminary. Decisive were the approvals from the Municipality of Ancona which on June 8, without any public trace of these acts, issued the Building Permit (PDC) no. 27 within the PAUR, that is the Regional Single Authorization Provision which included the retrospective VIA and coordinated the various titles and opinions.
On June 9 the Province acquired the PDC, including the new text sent again by the Municipality on June 19 with some modifications, and on June 24 the PAUR was approved. Following the institutional decisions is also the Conero Regional Park Authority which, precisely in the decisive year to acquire the status of National Park, with the current process underway, gave a favorable opinion on the reopening of a tourist accommodation facility that will have its impact on various fronts, from the environment to mobility. What has changed compared to the seizure of the facility in 2010? Everything revolves around the legitimacy of the PAUR, particularly on the technical evaluations necessary to resolve, or rather remedy inconsistencies, starting from the VINCA, that is the Environmental Impact Assessment.
The seizure in 2010
We recall that among the key reasons for the seizure of the campsite in 2010 was especially the investigation by the Forestry Corps, which ascertained that the campsite area was not 24,500 square meters, just under the 25,000 sqm limit, beyond which an Environmental Impact Assessment (VIA) is required, but rather 31,000 sqm.
The decisive years for the project
From here started the legal battle that marked most of the decade 2010-2020. The spark to restart the process came between 2021 and 2022 with a new PAUR to be submitted to the competent authorities. The following years, up to the present day, have been decisive for the project of a second campsite in Portonovo to become topical again. Meanwhile, the municipal administration changed political color, from the center-left of Mayor Mancinelli to the center-right of the current mayor Silvetti who, however, at the time of the new PAUR was president of the Park Authority. Among the people who have closely followed the troubled history of the former Adriatico campsite is certainly Giacomo Circelli, long-time official of the Ancona municipality for the building sector and now a member of the Board of Directors of the Conero Park where he continues to follow the campsite case, albeit in a different role.
