Bologna, September 1, 2026 – Summer does not seem to have any intention of giving way to autumn. In Emilia-Romagna, however, before the return of the heat, there will be to deal with a thunderstorm phase that on Wednesday, September 2 will mainly affect the Apennines, with a yellow alert for critical conditions related to thunderstorms.

Weather alert: southern part of the region involved
The alert concerns the Romagna mountains, the high Romagna hills, the Bologna mountains and hills, the central Emilia mountains and hills, as well as the Piacenza-Parma mountains and the high Piacenza-Parma hills. From the afternoon, conditions favorable to the development of strong thunderstorms are expected, with possible associated effects and damage. The phenomena will be more likely along the Apennine belt and may cause occasional landslides and rises in the water levels of the minor water network. The situation should improve during the evening, when the thunderstorms are expected to subside.
Nanni: “First 10 days of September, summer remains”
But the unstable phase could be only a brief interruption. According to Roberto Nanni, Ampro meteorologist, the atmosphere is ready to bring back the heat as the main feature also in the first days of September. “With September at the door, the meteorological summer ends and the autumn one will start on Tuesday. However, the atmosphere does not seem willing to change tune.” After the weather disturbance, in fact, the North African subtropical ridge could strengthen again over the Mediterranean, also involving Italy: “Thermal deviations could generally range between 4 and 8 degrees, with locally even higher values towards the end of the first decade.” It will not be, Nanni specifies, a repeat of the extremes of the height of summer, also because the days are now shorter and the nights longer, but the heat could still be very unusual for the period. Therefore, maximum temperatures close to or above 34-35 degrees in the most exposed areas are not excluded: “Summer seems unwilling to leave the stage, with persistent stability, little rain and heat still the protagonist.” Below are the Arpae forecasts for the coming days.
Wednesday, September 2
The day will start with generally cloudy skies over the Apennines and foothill areas, while the rest of the region will experience mostly partly cloudy conditions. In the central hours of the day, thunderstorm activity will develop over the hills, with the possibility of later extension also to the plains of the central-eastern sector. The phenomena will tend to subside from the evening, giving way to clearings. Temperatures will remain stable: minimums around 20-21 degrees on the plains and along the coast, while maximums will reach 31-33 degrees in the plains and 29-32 on the coastal strip. Winds initially weak northerly inland, then variable, with an easterly component on the coast and eastern plains from the afternoon. Stronger gusts will be possible during thunderstorms. Sea slight.
Thursday, September 3
The following day will bring decidedly calmer conditions. The sky will be clear or partly cloudy, except for some modest afternoon cloudiness along the hills, without significant precipitation. The minimum temperatures will range between 19 and 22 degrees on the plains and coast, while the maximum temperatures will remain high, around 32-33 degrees on the plains and 29-31 degrees on the coast. The winds will initially be weak or moderate from the northern quadrants, before becoming weak and variable everywhere. Sea slight. After the thunderstorm phase, therefore, Emilia-Romagna will quickly return under the influence of high pressure and temperatures decidedly above the seasonal average.
