The driver stops the vehicle and detaches the tractor

According to initial information, smoke and flames started from the lower part of the trailer, probably due to overheating of the braking system. However, investigations will determine the exact causes. The driver noticed what was happening and managed to stop the vehicle in a rest area. He then detached the tractor, moving it further ahead and away from the trailer, thus avoiding more serious consequences.

The witness’s account from the bridge

“There was a lot of smoke coming from below – reports a witness who followed the intervention from the bridge over the motorway –. The truck driver managed to stop in the rest area, detached the tractor, and moved it further ahead. At one point, the roadside brush also caught fire and there was concern that the flames could spread to the nearby field.”

Two fire brigade vehicles and checks with thermal camera

The scene, also visible from the Fenile overpass, showed the tractor already detached from the trailer, while from the rear of the tanker a column of white smoke continued to rise. Firefighters from the Pesaro command arrived on site with two vehicles. The firefighters worked directly on the area affected by the fire outbreak, completing extinguishing and cooling operations. A thermal camera was also used to identify any still overheated spots and prevent the flames from reigniting. The provincial command explained that it was an episode not particularly serious and that the situation was quickly brought under control.

Motorway open, but traffic slowed

The motorway remained open during the intervention. However, traffic slowed down heading south, with traffic channeled into a single lane to allow the fire brigade to operate safely.
