Bologna, August 26, 2026 –“Ten hours locked in a plane, waiting to take off from Bologna to Malaga.” Thus begins the ordeal recounted on social media by Massimo Cedrini, an artist from Rimini, who in a long Facebook post retraced the misadventure experienced last August 19th at the Bologna airport: the flight, initially scheduled for 5 PM, actually turned into a long wait on board, amid delays and uncertainties, before departure.
The account of the misadventure and the long wait on board
”They boarded us at 4:45 PM and kept us on the plane, without the possibility to get off and practically without food, because the little that was on board had run out while we were waiting for news about the departure. They gave us a glass of water each, I believe, and even that was almost finished’.”
The passenger’s anger: “Situations like this should not be considered normal”
The passenger’s story continues with details. ”The most absurd thing is that, in my opinion, it seemed they kept postponing instead of canceling the flight, because in case of cancellation they would have had to face the consequences and the expected refunds. Basically, we were locked inside a plane for 10 hours – rewinds the tape -. During this wait three people fainted and the emergency services arrived. I find a situation and behavior like this simply absurd. I share this experience – concludes Cedrini – because I believe it is right to let people know what can happen and, above all, because situations like this should not be considered normal”.
Ryanair’s reply: “Delay before departure due to adverse weather conditions”
The response from Ryanair was prompt. Asked by Repubblica, the airline explained that the flight was delayed before departure due to adverse weather conditions that day affecting all airlines operating to and from Italy.

Regarding the decision to keep passengers on board, the company explained that the choice was dictated by the need to be “ready to depart as soon as a takeoff slot became available” but the wait lasted longer than expected. Ryanair also specified that the crew “opened refreshment points to allow passengers to have snacks and drinks”.
During this wait, “a passenger felt unwell on board, the crew requested medical assistance and the passenger was examined by airport medical staff, who determined that he/she was fit to fly.” The plane subsequently departed for Malaga (August 20) at 1:07 AM local time.
