Padua, August 31, 2026 – Scams an elderly woman living in Rovigo, then an hour later is arrested by officers of the Mobile Squad of Padua: with him, the 20-year-old Polish man had two handbags containing the jewelry and costume jewelry of the pensioner worth a total of 15 thousand euros.
The man was identified at the Padua station while trying to buy a train ticket. During the police check, he immediately appeared agitated and it emerged that he was hiding the two handbags in his backpack.
The investigations
Taken to the police station, the 20-year-old refused to provide any information about the origin of the jewelry and at that point the investigations began.
Also with the collaboration of the Mobile Squad of Rovigo, investigators established that just an hour earlier a scam had been committed in Rovigo against an 85-year-old woman.

The scam and the hunt for the accomplice
The lady had in fact received a phone call from a man with a “Campanian accent” who, posing as a doctor from the Montegrotto hospital, told her that her son, at death’s door, needed immediate medical care and “special” medicines costing 40 thousand euros. The elderly woman, who said she did not have that amount in cash, was then convinced to put all the jewelry she owned into two bags, which were then handed over to a phantom collaborator sent by the fake doctor.
The 20-year-old was taken to the Padua prison, while investigations continue to identify the accomplice, who would have managed to keep the victim on the phone as long as possible to prevent her from asking for help.
