Reggio Emilia, July 28, 2026 – Frightening fire around 3:30 PM today on the A1, heading towards Milan, in the Reggio Emilia area. Dozens of round bales loaded on the trailer of a truck caught fire. The flames spread quickly, inevitably causing traffic disruptions, with 18 km of tailbacks heading North, which gradually decreased. Now traffic is moving on two lanes, the vehicle is still stopped and the hay continues to burn on the emergency lane, as it is difficult to extinguish despite the prompt intervention of the firefighters. A bulldozer intervened to pull all the round bales off the trailer and open them, allowing the still active hotspots to be extinguished. Also on site were highway police patrols and vehicles from Autostrade per l’Italia.

Soon after, civil protection also intervened to distribute water to citizens stuck in the queue. A queue formed at both Modena Nord and Modena Sud exits for those coming from Bologna.
