Child taken from parents, the desperate cry of dad Justin: "I think of him every single day"

Ancona, June 7, 2026 – Time flows inexorably, and for a child not yet four years old, every day spent away risks erasing memories. It is a desperate appeal from Justin, an English citizen from Westgate-on-Sea, who only asks to be able to be a father again to Kevin (fictitious name, ed.), born in Ancona in June 2022. A forced separation born from misfortune and bureaucracy.

The intervention of social services

After the first months with little Kevin at home in Porto San Giorgio, Justin, whose father died due to Covid, urgently returned to England with his elderly mother who had to undergo surgery. At that time, Kevin’s mother, suffering from addiction problems, appeared stable. Instead, the situation deteriorated: social services intervened and the Court suspended parental responsibility for both.

The court’s decision

Justin immediately returned to Italy, but the supervised meetings with the child were an obstacle course: just one hour every two weeks, an impossible timeframe for someone traveling from the United Kingdom. To complicate matters, serious health problems affected Justin himself, who underwent two surgeries and remained stuck in England, at home for several months. During this period, the Ancona Juvenile Court declared both parents stripped of parental authority, opening up guardianship of the minor.

“I just want to see my son again”

Today, however, Justin is well; in Kent, he has a house, a stable job (he owns a company that transports fruit and vegetables), negative toxicological tests, and a solid family network with his grandmother and 28-year-old daughter ready to help him. “I think of him every day – Justin explains to Carlino – I just want to see my son again; I have undergone all medical checks, and tests for drugs and alcohol are all negative. Here in England, I have a stable home and job, and my daughter too (director for a company dealing with security and video surveillance, ed.), as well as my mother, who, despite being 86, is lucid and self-sufficient, could help me raise the little one who I am sure has not forgotten me. I have always taken care of him, except when I had to leave for reasons related to my mother’s and my own health. We spent his first birthday together, then we kept in touch and saw each other through video calls, then two years ago when he left the community (where I could also bring toys and materials, ed.) they no longer allowed me to see him.

“I no longer know where he is, I only know that he has been entrusted to a family in the Macerata area”

Now I no longer know where he is, I only know that he has been entrusted to a family in the Macerata area. Since April, I have been sending money for his support. I only ask to see him again, gradually. I had offered the judge my availability to move to Italy for the entire month of May so that I could organize even supervised meetings, but nothing. By organizing myself in advance, I can stay in Italy and get closer to my little one. This is my priority now.” By his side is lawyer Anna Cucchiarini, who has filed an appeal for the reinstatement of parental responsibility, opposing the state of adoptability. The Kent County Council has already certified Justin’s suitability, and in the United Kingdom, school and doctor are awaiting Kevin, who is a British citizen.

The lawyer: “We have also activated the British Consulate General in Milan”

“We have also activated the British Consulate General in Milan – explains the lawyer – because the child is a British citizen, not Italian, but legally it is as if he were an unaccompanied foreign minor. We have made numerous requests to the juvenile court which in recent days has agreed on the need to restore gradual meetings with the child’s father, sending the request to the Civitanova family counseling center, which, however, has not yet called us.” This is the broken cry of “a father who wants to be one again, just for the love of his son.” In his home in England, Justin has already prepared a bike and building blocks, cherishing that simple dream: next week Kevin turns four, and Justin only hopes that fate grants him the most beautiful gift: to unwrap those presents with him and see him smile again.
