Precisely at the moment of touching down on the runway, in fact, the aircraft was hit by a sudden gust of crosswind, with metar data reporting gusts up to 26 knots.

How the ‘go around’ works

The go-around – in Italian riattaccata or missed approach – is a maneuver in which the plane aborts the landing at the last moment and climbs back up. It is, it is explained, a normal procedure when for safety reasons it is better to repeat the landing.

The footage shows the wingtip almost touching the asphalt of the Dublin runway, barely missing impact with the surface by a few millimeters: an emblematic passage, which clearly conveys the sudden and insidious force of the gust of wind in those moments.
