Beaten and locked up at home in the village of Saman: nightmare for a young woman, husband arrested and family members

Novellara (Reggio Emilia), August 3, 2026 – She had been forced to endure physical and psychological abuse, including violence with kicks, punches, slaps, whippings, attempted sexual assaults, leading to domestic segregation to prevent her from learning the Italian language and integrating into our country. Another episode, yet another, of domestic violence in Novellara, the same town that was the scene of the tragedy of Saman Abbas and who knows how many other similar situations linked to the extremism of cultures distant from the local one.

The beginning of the nightmare

A nightmare that started already from the victim’s arrival in Italy, last summer, involving a Pakistani woman abused by her husband and his family members. A situation only uncovered now, when the woman managed to escape from the car in which she had been loaded by the family members, then being treated for injuries healable within a week.

The investigations and the complaints

From here started the investigations by the Novellara carabinieri and their colleagues from the Reggio Emilia operational unit, leading to the complaint for mistreatment against the 27-year-old husband, who ended up in jail under arrest, and against three family members, with a restraining order against the victim, including an electronic bracelet for the 55-year-old father-in-law and the 21-year-old brothers-in-law, living in Correggio.

The June 4 assault

On June 4, the woman was attacked by her husband and relatives, then driven back home, in Novellara, by car. From there she escaped, finding help from two passersby who mobilized medical aid and carabinieri. On Saturday morning, precautionary measures were applied with the arrest of the husband and the removal of the other relatives.
