The Rossoblù CEO Claudio Fenucci this morning from the Valles training camp: “Orsolini’s contract renewal? We are talking and we are not far off, so if there are no other surprises, regarding the economic aspects, in the end we should reach a contract extension and make Orso a club legend. We are trying to make an effort to satisfy everyone, but we cannot wait much longer, otherwise this will become a soap opera.”

A summary of the first seven days of training camp in Valles? “I see motivated guys, who just need to adapt to the new working methods.” The stalled market? “First we need to wait for the financial carousel of those buying from abroad to get moving.” Bologna’s competitiveness this season? “It will have to be combined with financial rebalancing.”
Claudio Fenucci sets the tone by arriving in the evening at the Rossoblù training camp in Val Pusteria. At the bedside of a Bologna team that emerged battered from the first friendly match of the season and went through some turbulence in the transition phase from Italiano’s football to Tedesco’s? In part, it’s like that, and chronicles are full of July blunders. Certainly, the Tedesco project is intriguing but also contains inevitable unknowns: the usual ones that accompany a change of management.
“I’ve experienced more than one training camp – says the Rossoblù CEO, speaking in the ‘Pallone nel 7’ lounge located inside one of the two hotels hosting the Rossoblù in Valles –. It seems to me that it’s a very normal training camp, where so far we’ve worked very well. The guys are motivated, there are no distractions from the market, there’s just adapting to a new working method and a new staff, and for this, it will take some time.”
The transfer market chapter is stalled, with only one new face coming in (left-back Alhassane, officially announced yesterday). “The market relies on clubs buying from abroad – says Fenucci – and things haven’t really picked up there yet. In the coming weeks, something will move, but we, at least in this first phase, won’t have to do much: having found Lykogiannis’s replacement, we are looking for a midfielder, then we’ll see what happens later. Also because this year we don’t need a large squad, and there’s a new coach who pays attention to the youth sector: from here, some young players could move up during the year.”
The objective is clear: “To combine technical competitiveness and financial rebalancing. In the last three years, we have invested two hundred million in player transfer fees (true, but one must also count the substantial revenues from major sales, editor’s note). However, we are calm, because we have strong ownership. Anyway, we don’t all have to become accountants and bookkeepers: the sporting objective remains a priority, and that is to build a competitive team to try, as I say every year, to win the Coppa Italia but also to do well in the league. It will be difficult, it will take one or two years, but we are working towards that.”
It concludes with Lucumi. “A year ago – observes Fenucci –_ we couldn’t sell him at the end of the transfer window, but we promised him that this year, in the face of a suitable offer, we would accommodate him. The market hasn’t taken off yet, and if it doesn’t take off for Lucumi either, we would gladly keep him…” It’s unlikely to happen: but that’s what Fenucci says. He will stay a few days in Val Pusteria.
