Milano Marittima, July 19 – The father of Magdalena Kaiser is under investigation for child abandonment, the 4-year-old Austrian girl who drowned in the pool of the Continental hotel in Milano Marittima, in the Ravenna area.

According to the investigations carried out by the carabinieri, in fact, the man, 56 years old, after telling his daughter to wait for him in an area between the playground and the pool, would have left, perhaps to go upstairs to get something, but when he returned to his daughter it was already too late. From here, for the 56-year-old, the registration in the register of suspects by the Ravenna prosecutor’s office.
The holiday ended in tragedy
The family had arrived from Austria to Milano Marittima to spend a holiday period: the parents, Magdalena, and her two older sisters.
The tragedy occurred around 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The alarm was raised by two boys walking down the street, who found the pool gate open and entered to take a dip.
They saw the little girl’s body floating and started screaming.
The first to rush to the poolside was a doctor staying at the hotel, who immediately realized that the situation was desperate. Compromised.
She remained in the water for 7-8 minutes
Emergency services were alerted and the paramedics did everything to resuscitate Magdalena, but there was nothing to be done: the little girl’s death was declared at 4 p.m. at the Bufalini hospital in Cesena.

At the Continental hotel, in addition to the carabinieri, prosecutor Angela Scorza also arrived, who conducted an inspection lasting over two hours and ordered the seizure of the pool. Some witnesses were heard and security camera footage was reviewed: the girl is seen going down into the pool, then the little girl disappears from the video, in an area not covered by the camera’s view. She would have remained in the water for at least 7-8 minutes.
An autopsy will be performed
According to the reconstruction of what happened before, just after lunch Magdalena was with her father between a play area and the pool. The man, after telling the little girl to stay in the play area, would have left to go upstairs, where his wife and the other two daughters were.
Upon his return, the doctor was already at the pool trying to resuscitate the daughter. Hence, the suspicion of the crime of child abandonment.
An autopsy will be performed on the girl early this week: the first step to shed full light on what happened.
