Bologna, September 1, 2026 – Breakthrough in the attempted murder in Medicina: the carabinieri, after hours of searches and investigations that have pinpointed the location of the brutal attack (the victim, a 28-year-old Italian, is still hospitalized in critical condition) and have arrested a 57-year-old Tunisian, legally residing in the country and in Italy for decades, accused of aggravated attempted murder. The man, who lives and works in Medicina as a bricklayer, was reached by the officers on Monday evening directly at his workplace. After the arrest, he was taken to the Dozza prison awaiting the validation hearing.
He wanted to hit the mother
An attack of blind and bloody violence, which hides an even more complex scenario behind it: according to what has been reconstructed so far by the investigators (the Bologna Investigative Unit and the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of Imola and the Imola Detachment are working), the 57-year-old did not want to hit the young man, who is currently on a bed at the Maggiore hospital in critical condition under reserved prognosis, but his mother.

The obsession with the woman
Since March, in fact, the suspect had developed a true obsession towards the victim’s mother. An escalation of attention and harassment, between messages and unreciprocated contacts, which lasted until Sunday. When, in the afternoon, the attempted murder took place: the 57-year-old showed up at the woman’s house, who lives with her son, hoping to see her. He already had the weapon with him, a machete about 50 centimeters long, found less than a kilometer from the scene of the tragedy by the carabinieri.

The 57-year-old attacked the son
Probably, the 57-year-old wanted to harm the woman. Not finding her at home, however, he violently attacked the son, who was unaware of this situation.

The developments of the bloody episode were recounted by Lieutenant Colonel Claudio Gallù, commander of the Investigative Unit: “We combed the entire area looking for cameras. After analyzing the footage, the SIS collected as many elements as possible. The suspicions led us to the 57-year-old.” He “showed up at the house looking for the boy’s mother and found the young man on whom he unleashed his fury. Striking him with a machete, later recovered inside a drainage canal.”
Who is the attacker
Captain Gino Lifrieri, commander of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Imola company, gives a profile of the alleged perpetrator: “He arrived in Italy in 1998, then left for a short period. He returned permanently to Italy in 2023. He is not a person known to the police, he is a normal worker who lives with his nephew, also a bricklayer.” From the cameras, a detail emerges that pushes the investigators even more towards the 57-year-old: “We notice he has a wound on the index finger of his right hand. A fresh cut, very visible. He inflicted it on himself during the attack.”
