The man, who would have turned 67 years old on July 19, was reportedly struck by a sudden illness while engaged in diving activities in the waters of Lampedusa.
He was there with his brother Roberto for a few days, precisely to carry out that activity he loved so much.
Rescue on the Cala Pisana pier
At the moment of the illness, the divers from the excursion group accompanying him recovered him from the water, loaded him onto the inflatable boat, and brought him ashore, on the pier of Cala Pisana.
Immediately, while he was on board and emergency services were called, resuscitation maneuvers began, which were then taken over by the 118 medical personnel once they arrived on site by ambulance.
He leaves behind his wife Tiziana and son Nicola
However, there was nothing to be done. At the moment, the body is at the disposal of the magistrate, in the island’s polyclinic, awaiting a decision on whether to order an autopsy. Ergo, well known in San Severino, had been retired for some time after working for many years at the Lavorcarni company.
His smile and friendliness were contagious. Besides diving, Ergo was an expert skier and a football enthusiast. He leaves behind his wife Tiziana and son Nicola with Barbara.
