Pesaro, September 11, 2026 – Almost two years after his disappearance, the search for Riccardo Branchini, the 19-year-old from Acqualagna, who has been missing since October 2024, resumed today, Friday, September 11. Two teams of specialized divers, directly appointed by the family, began scouring the first stretch of the Candigliano River, in the area of the Furlo reservoir, where his car was found, with his personal belongings inside.

The first day of searches
The first day of searches did not yield the expected results for the young man’s family, who have been seeking answers to his disappearance for two years: the divers will return to dive.
Riccardo’s mother has repeatedly requested, unsuccessfully, that the searches be conducted inside the reservoir, after it has been emptied and dredged. The young man’s traces were lost during the night between October 12 and 13 two years ago: he had met some friends, then returned home and left again. In May, the Pesaro prosecutor’s office requested the closure of the investigation for instigation to suicide, opened after the young man’s disappearance.
The disappearance
During the night between October 12 and 13, 2024, the 19-year-old from Acqualagna disappeared around the Furlo gorge. Since then, there has been no body nor any certain evidence of escape. There is only a long list of details, none of which is conclusive. The first detail is the car. Riccardo wore a red sweatshirt during the day. Before going out, he changed and put on a white sweatshirt. That sweatshirt was later found in the car, along with jeans and a green t-shirt. The clothes are on the back seat, but not folded. There is no absolute order that investigators often notice in scenes of those who commit an extreme act. But the belt is: it is carefully placed, rolled up. And the shoes are neatly arranged.

The mother’s battle
The mother continues to fight to have the Furlo dam emptied to search for her son’s body, an operation so far blocked or slowed down by environmental issues, fueling the family’s pain as they await answers.
The Branchini case has also received wide coverage on national television networks, with reports aired on the program ‘Chi l’ha visto’. From today, as mentioned, new searches with divers aim to get to the bottom of a tragedy that has kept everyone holding their breath for a long time.
