Bologna, July 29, 2026 – The Prosecutor’s Office of Bologna has officially opened a file with 12 suspects for the clashes between protesters and law enforcement that took place on the evening of July 20, as a protest for the death of Abderrahim Fakir, the 42-year-old who died the day before in the Pilastro district during a police detention.
The investigation is entrusted to prosecutor Stefano Dambruoso and the suspects are accused, in various capacities, of resisting a public official, disguise, and damage. Among them is also the 20-year-old who was arrested during the unrest and then released the following day with a ban on residing in the Metropolitan City of Bologna by decision of Judge Claudia Gualtieri, following the validation hearing. His trial will begin on September 9.

Clashes after the rally
The clashes with the police occurred on the night of July 20, after a rally organized in Piazza Nettuno by Mayor Matteo Lepore. Many people gathered in respect of Fakir’s tragedy, but then a violent faction (a small number compared to the participants) started an ‘urban guerrilla’ lasting about four hours, breaking windows, setting cars on fire, and leaving graffiti on the walls. The damages were estimated at about 200,000 euros.
